Carroll Kehne's Gulf station (pp. 106-110)
On their way to Washington, Harry and Bess stopped for gas at Carroll Kehne's Gulf station in Frederick, Maryland. The lovely art deco station was torn down in the 1970s. This rendering of it was painted by Kehne's son, Carroll Kehne Jr., who is an accomplished artist. (Courtesy Carroll Kehne Jr.)
