The Decatur motel-turned-prison (pp 65—67)
On their way east, Harry and Bess stayed a night at the Parkview Motel in Decatur, Illinois. In the 1970s the Illinois Department of Corrections bought the motel and converted it into a correctional facility for work-release inmates. The green sign reminds visitors that they are "subject to search at any time." Photo by author, 2007.
