Harry’s presidential airplane (pp. 188—191)

This is the Independence, Harry's second presidential airplane, now on display at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. It was the first airplane built specifically for presidential use. Douglas Aircraft had originally come up with the garish paint job for American Airlines, whose logo was an eagle. American rejected it, but Harry loved it. Photo by author (or author's wife), 2008.
