Life without the Secret Service (p. 116)
When they left the White House in 1953, Harry and Bess were not entitled to Secret Service protection, but they never minded mingling with their less famous fellow citizens. Here they are at a Kansas City A’s baseball game at Municipal Stadium in Kansas City on April 11, 1957. Harry is speaking with a fan sitting behind him. Bess is seated two seats to his left. Notably, they are sitting in the upper deck. Photo by Sammie Feeback, courtesy of the Harry S. Truman Library.
